Why Fibre Broadband Is The Best Internet For WFH - TM Unifi Agent

The ‘New Age’ Of WFH

Who here is working from home?

Actually, it might be more appropriate to ask who isn’t working from home these days. With the Covid-19 pandemic still looming large in the background, and the implementation of on-and-off quarantining, it seems we’ve been ushered into a new age of WFH – one where everyone is currently stuck indoors, forced to take their work to the home.

But whether WFH is better or worse overall than standard office-working is a subject for another article. Instead, working populations are now being troubled by a brand new problem – the strength of home internet for a home-based work environment. Before, you could trust your office’s specialized business internet to handle most of the online work processes. But now that all tasks must be managed in the home, is your residential broadband really up to snuff?

We’ve all been there, at this point – suddenly disconnecting from a business meeting, or taking forever to send a large file, or dealing with sudden downtimes at a crucial point of a business project. Laggy internet speeds are the bane of WFH life – so what are our options to minimize it?

Fibre Optic Broadband – Is It Good For WFH?

When it comes to the best Internet options, people tend to recommend fibre optic broadband. Fibre optics is a comparatively newer form of broadband, which utilizes fibre optic cables in order to transfer data over the net. With it’s high speed and reliability, fibre broadband has often been hailed as the future of broadband itself.

But what of WFH? When it comes to tackling immense online workloads, does fibre-optic broadband still hold its weight?

Working populations will be glad to know that the answer is a very resounding yes. In fact, we’d go as far to say that fibre broadband is the best Internet option for WFH – and here are just a few reasons why.

Reasons Why Fibre Broadband Is The Best For WFH:

  1. It’s More Stable And Reliable

One of fibre broadband’s best strengths is it’s stability and reliability. When working from home, you don’t want a connection that constantly fluctuates between good and bad – you want a connection that’s consistently stable, so you won’t suddenly lag while doing spreadsheets or disconnect from a particularly important Google Meets.

This sort of stability and reliability is not often guaranteed by other Internet types. For example, DSL’s telephone cables mean that signal strength may degrade the further you are from your provider, while cable’s shared network often means that your bandwidth and speed is shared amongst your neighbors.

In contrast, fibre broadband’s fibre cable is hindered by none of these issues, and therefore ensures a consistently stable and reliable internet solution for those working from home.

  1. It’s More Resilient

Unlike cable and DSL, fibre broadband uses fibre optic wiring rather than copper cabling, which is comparatively a much more resilient means of transferring data from the hub to your home. Compared to copper, fibre optics are stronger and less susceptible to getting damaged by rain or similar weather situations, and therefore guarantees less internet issues while at work.

Considering how internet connectivity issues can significantly affect your work ability, especially from the home, no one can deny that fibre optic’s resiliency is a pretty big note of improvement!

  1. It’s Fast

Internet speeds are one of the most important things to consider when working from home, whether this is for downloading or uploading. After all, who wants to wait more than ten minutes just to send a simple file over to a colleague?

Thankfully, fibre broadband has the strength of being one of the fastest Internet types currently available. After all, fibre optic cables transfer data through light transmission – meaning that data can zip through the lines to your home at practically the ‘speed of light’.

In fact, most sources peg fibre broadband’s average max speed at about 1000Mbps, which ensures that any uploads, downloads, or streaming you do is as seamless as it can be!

  1. It’s More Secure

On top of being one of the faster internet types out there, fibre broadband also benefits from it’s considerably higher level of security.

This mostly has to do with it’s light transmission – since light runs considerably faster than it’s electric cable counterpart, it’s much more difficult for potential hackers to intercept the signal and get to the transferring data. Furthermore, it’s been proven that fibre optics are far harder to hack than copper cable, the latter being easily susceptible to tactics like cable tapping.

In this sense, you can be sure that all the work and data you send across lines are safe and secure from outside parties!

So…what’s next?

At the end of the day, the conclusion is clear – fibre broadband is the broadband service for WFH-ers. But even after knowing this, what’s the next step?

Well – you can get yourself a fibre broadband service from a reliable local provider, for one.

How To Apply For A UniFi Fibre Broadband Package

Applying for a UniFi fibre broadband package is actually an incredibly simple 5 step process, that can be completed via UniFi’s online registration. We did a more detailed summation here, but the process is as follows:

Step 1: Choose Your Package & Fill In The Form

First and foremost, you should decide on a UniFi fibre broadband package you feel best fits your needs. After choosing one, simply click the ‘APPLY / BUY NOW’ tab at the side and fill in the form that appears.

Step 2: Submit Documents

After filling in the form, you can submit it.

Step 3: Wait 24 Hours To Process

The form will usually take a maximum of 24 hours to process after being submitted.

Once said form has been processed, you will receive an SMS notification on the date of installation, and should send a responsive SMS confirmation on said date. Once affirmed, you will receive a notification on the installer’s name and contact number.

Step 4: Installation

On the day of the scheduled installation, you will receive a notification from the installer on their estimated time of arrival. Upon arrival, the installer will then perform a check-up on your home to gauge the best cabling route, then begin the actual installation process with your consent.

Step 5: Sign-off And Done!

Once everything has been properly installed, you will need to sign off a Service Acceptance Form (SAF), which can be done digitally via a softcopy form sent to your email.

And after that – you’re done! You can now enjoy a fast, reliable, and secure fibre broadband for all your work-from-home needs!

A fibre broadband can definitely be a boon to your work-from-home life. It’s light transmission and fibre optic cables afford it more security, reliability, and speed than cable and DSL, and therefore gives you a seamless internet experience to conduct all your work from the home.

And if you’re looking for a reliable local fibre broadband provider with wide coverage and a variety of package add-ons? UniFi is a broadband provider that can offer you plenty of fibre broadband plans and more!
